Tyler HQ is set in the Warwickshire countryside, with the historic Chesterton windmill standing proud amongst the rolling fields…. The most idyllic view for the team to enjoy whilst at work. However, with no place to retreat to, eat lunch or even have a quiet coffee to gather your thoughts whilst in the office, the Management team agreed it was time to provide a space to do so, and so project staff room commenced!
The brief was very open, and after speaking to the team and collecting their ideas it soon became clear that the key focus should be to create somewhere to relax, eat and refocus. The interior design team were chosen, (well, volunteered) and we started to turn our plans into reality.
First things first… The chosen room was emptied, measured up, and a vision brought to life digitally – we all agreed on the room layout after viewing several versions of our floor plan, and amending this until we were all happy with the winner.
To keep the room light and fresh we wanted a neutral paint colour for the walls, but not just the standard brilliant white option – three tester pots of colour later, and a tally chart completed by each member of the team, the winning colour was chosen. The paint was ordered and it was time for some elbow grease. The whole team got involved, and over two days of painting with the odd break to respond to emails in between, the walls were transformed, and the room was already looking great!
At this point, the design team decided it would be a great idea to deny any further access into the staff room to be, until it was complete, accessorised, and all finishing touches in place. We thought this would enhance the anticipation and add to the excitement for the big reveal.
The flat pack and furniture was erected and positioned into place, pops of colour added in the form of plants, cushions and frames. We included a book shelf complete with books donated by the team for swapping, and pots of pens and adult colouring pages were secured to the peg board for those who wish to engage in some mindful colouring which is great for your mental health.
Pieces of Tyler memorabilia from our team building sessions such as our self-portraits and garden gnomes were added as final touches… oh, we mustn’t forget the TV, Netflix was tuned in… and that was it, the room was ready!
All of the team were invited to the front door of the staff room for the unveil, and as the door was opened it was amazing to see the surprise on everyone’s face. What a transformation! The Tyler interior design team had smashed it!
Everyone has welcomed the new space, and it’s a great informal area for team chats and meeting’s too, as well as our much-improved lunch breaks!
Tyler is committed to their team and their welfare, and appreciate the hard work from of all those involved across the business to make this vision a reality. Creating this space really entices the team to take breaks, re-focus and promote the importance of mental health in the work place.
Not to mention, we can now sit with a cup of tea and take in those glorious views!
