The Tyler Packaging team all came together to support Children’s Mental Health week, and we want to tell you about what we got up to and what it meant to us.
The week is run by children’s mental health charity Place2Be and aims to raise awareness and shine a light on the importance of young people’s mental health. The theme for this year was Let’s Connect, and Place2Be wanted to encourage children (and adults, or big kids like us) to connect with each other in rewarding and meaningful ways.
The Tyler Family took part in some fun activities and meaningful conversations. Here is what we got up to.
What better way to kick start the week than with a bake sale! Our theme was children’s cakes/bakes or nostalgic favourites from our childhoods. We had fun at home making the cakes with our families and even more fun eating them at the office!
We took the time on Tuesday to sit and reflect on what Children’s Mental Health week meant to us. For those in our team with their own little ones, and those with nieces, nephews, or younger siblings, it allowed us the opportunity to understand the importance of their mental health and how vital it is to support them, as well as such incredible charities such as Place2Be. Here are some quotes from the team’s pledge cards:
We are proud to support children’s mental health week because:
“Children are our future. We have to provide them with the best possible start in life for a better tomorrow”.
“Our children’s mental and physical health is as important as our own and we need to continue to raise awareness as best we can”.
“There should be no shame for younger generations to speak up and ask for help”.
“Good mental health helps children develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them! Their emotional wellbeing is just as important as their physical health”.
Wednesday was our opportunity to dress to express ourselves. This was open to interpretation and could have been just wearing your favourite bright coloured top, or those sparkly sequin shoes that shine the light on the path you are walking.
We donned our thinking caps and took part in a team quiz. We had great fun together and enjoyed a little healthy competition. Some of us also realised how bad our geography knowledge was. This time away from our desks having an hour of fun really lifted our spirits on hump day and gave us lots of afternoon laughs.
To round up the week’s activities our mental health responder, Rachael, put together some incredible activity packs, filled with fun and information for us to take away. The packs included such things as tips to connect with our teenagers, fun word searches to complete with our little ones, or some colouring pages to relax and unwind after a long day at school or work.
Throughout the week, we raised an incredible £164 for Place2Be. This money will pay for 4 children to have 50 minute one to one sessions with a counsellor. Or it will pay for 10 children to speak to a qualified counsellor about their worries in a lunchtime session. Or it could pay towards 4 specialised parent and coaching sessions for a parent and child to have together.
We are proud to support such a important cause.
