This month our blog spotlights our community sponsorships, with special emphasis on our partnership with the Berkswell Cricket Club, where we proudly hold the position of their primary title sponsor. As the 2023 season for the club has recently drawn to a close, we are excited to share some insights and remarks, here is what Jem Leach from the club, had to say:
“Firstly, I’m pleased to say we’ve won a lot of support for being one of a very few clubs with a policy of picking our best sides regardless of gender. Leagues are predominantly men on Saturday and women on Sunday, but our Saturday thirds and fourths are a wonderful mix of junior girls and boys, and men and women, learning and enjoying the game, and our juniors are mostly mixed.
Saturday firsts play in the Birmingham & District Premier League, the highest level outside the professional game, and while we flirted with trouble for a while finished comfortably mid-table. Great news for next year is ex Middlesex captain Neil Dexter is stepping up to lead the side, we’re talking with a couple of quality recruits, and we’re pushing for that title again!
Our Saturday seconds, promoted to Warwickshire League Div 2 last year, just missed promotion again by one place and I know want to put that right next year. And our thirds and fourth’s, in Warwickshire Division 6 East and Division 10 East, were mid table but much more importantly are bringing on our next generation of players.
Our Women’s 1st XI had a fantastic season, going unbeaten to win our first women’s Premier League title. And were only beaten in the final of the John Smart Premier Cup (for overall midlands champions) in a rain affected game at the end of September. Our Women’s 2nd XI, a mix of youth and experience, just missed out on promotion from Division 2 of the West Midlands League by finishing a creditable third.
Fantastic season for our juniors as well. We have 120 members and run 13 sides from softball to U17, 11 of those sides being mixed gender and 2 female only, and we played 120 junior games over the season. There are some good players coming through, but the stand-out team performance was our U13 girls reaching the National T20 cup final at Lords, might have lost but we’re very proud of them!”
A few weeks ago, we attended Berkswell’s end of season dinner and awards, where we were honoured with an award as a token of appreciation for our sponsorship. This really meant a lot to us as a business and a team, recognising the vital role we can play to help such clubs within the community.
But our commitment to sponsorships extends beyond the cricket club. Here are some of our other partnerships recently engaged in:
- We recently became a sponsor for Earlsdon netball team, and with our funding it has helped Earlsdon build brand new netball courts to help the team in the future.
- Another new sponsorship recently was Lighthorne U12 Girls Football team, a brand-new team encouraging girls to get into the beautiful game. They train just a stones throw away from where we are based here at Tyler HQ. It is such an honour to be able to sponsor such great teams, so local to us.
- We recently donated to one of our valued customers, Dugdale Limited, who are an established PVC company based in West Yorkshire. The fundraiser was for the Dugdale ‘crazy gang’ who ran the Rochdale BMW 10k and have raised a whopping £12,974 so far for the registered charity, Maggie’s, who provide support to people affected by cancer.
- Finally, we have proudly become a sponsor to the Swans Netball team, a decision influenced by one of company directors, whose daughter is an active member of the team.
Supporting our local community lies at the heart of our values here at Tyler Packaging. We have a strong passion for giving back and providing support to our local community. Our hope is that, as time goes by, we can further expand our mission and continue to support our community in even more meaningful ways.
