The past month has been quite a busy month here at Tyler Packaging, with team building days, team meetings, and a brand-new mindful garden.
Mindful Garden
We are all so incredibly lucky to be able to work in such a lovely setting here at Tyler Packaging HQ, and for some time now we have been brainstorming ideas on how we can create our very own mindful garden. Time spent interacting with nature can be a welcome tonic for the mind and body, and by considering the senses we wanted to begin to develop an area outdoors that helps to provide us with a necessary break from the stresses of daily work and life.
Holli, Ilona, and Magda were appointed to lead on this, and Holli even had a helping hand from her dog, Mac to get the garden completed one Saturday.
The brief was open, but the key features agreed by the whole team were to encourage wildlife and create an area of tranquillity for people to enjoy. With a little help from google it was decided herbs were a great place to start. Seeds were planted and nurtured in the office, and once established they were transferred to pots and placed outside. The mixture of scents that were output from these seedlings was definitely a great way to engage senses and connect with nature. We then wanted to create an area to take those moments in! We wanted to re-use materials where possible and Facebook marketplace was a great place to gather any unwanted items locally and put these to good us. We managed to source a pallet planter which even contained strawberry plants, a few large plant pots and an old fire pit. Pallets from our warehouse were stacked together and the gaps filled with logs, sticks & stones that were sourced from around the Tyler grounds… these have created a great area for bugs to explore and claim as their home. We also purchased some more established plants as we wanted an instant impact, however they were carefully chosen to ensure they would flourish in the environment and attract as much wildlife as possible. Keeping with the re-use trend, bunting made from Tyler plastic bags and pallet strapping added a little fun touch to the tree’s as did the re-use of woven bird seed bags as planters.
Our mindful garden has been in the making for a while now, so we are really happy that this has finally taken shape. Whether it’s enjoying our lunch outside on a nice sunny day, or just taking 10 minutes away from our desk to reset and take a breather, we now have the perfect place to do it.
Team Building Burger Day
Also this month, we took part in a team building exercise in the office to create the best burger! Split into 6 teams of 2 and one team of 3, we were tasked to develop a recipe, purchase the ingredients, and test our BBQ skills! Marked on 4 different categories: appearance, patty, overall taste and toppings and taste, we were all excited for the challenge.
The 3 judges in charge of trying the burgers were Magda, Mark, and Sam – they were all very full after having 6 burgers to review! Mark did quote though that it was ‘’the best day in the office he’s ever had’’. After lots of tasting and debating, the results were in. The winners were not just one team, but two teams, as the judges just could not decide! Those two teams were Emma, Holli, and Josh, with their Hawaiian burger, and Levi and Lucy, with their prawn topped burger that wowed the judges. The team building exercise was an enjoyable activity – even though, in British tradition it rained for our BBQ – it showed off the competitive side of some people, and everyone was able to eat tasty burgers for lunch!
Team Meeting
This month also saw us welcome our European friends to Leamington Spa for our quarterly team meeting. After a successful day all together at the office, we enjoyed a delicious meal at dinner time at Bistrot Pierre in Stratford-Upon-Avon. It was a lovely evening filled with laughter, and it was nice to catch up with Andrea, Paulo and Hugo again! We love having them at the Tyler office.
